Though not many homes have one, we can all agree that a sunroom is an amazing addition to a house. Whether it’s an attached or integrated part of the architecture, it’s a bright, light filled space that allows you to enjoy the beautiful view that surrounds your home – without ever having to step outside. A sunroom lets you appreciate your property, rain or shine. But its primary advantage is the warm, cosy space it creates on sunny days. If you have a sunroom in your home, you can feel a lot of pressure to get its interior design just right so that it’s relaxing and inviting. That’s why we’ve created a few quick ideas to help create the perfect sunroom.
Mirrors
We’ve talked about mirrors before. They’re a great way to extend the reach of natural light by bouncing the sun’s rays off its surface. This may seem like overkill in a sunroom, which typically has more windows than any other room in your house; however, even a sunroom can struggle with darkness. As the sun moves across the sky, certain corners can get very dark. By hanging a few strategically placed mirrors, you can keep you sunroom light at all times of the day.
Colour
This will depend on the aesthetic that you wish to build for this room, but a sunroom can benefit from a strong colour or two chosen deliberately for their ‘wow’ factor. Though you may choose to paint the walls a neutral white or beige, the colours and patterns of your couches and rugs can pick up the slack. Pillows, in particular, are an ideal way to get some coloured interest into your room.
Focus
We often see sunrooms arranged in a particular way, with the couches facing inwards, usually around a table. But that’s missing the whole point of having a sunroom in your house! If you’re windows open up to a great view, take advantage of what’s beyond your home. Arrange some or all of the furniture so that you can enjoy the view!
Shades & Shutters
The introduction of window treatments in a sunroom can seem strange, especially if you plan on basking in the light and heat it affords. But the sun is only up for so long. Eventually it will dip below the horizon and allow darkness to descend. Without any covering on your windows, people can have a clear view straight into your sunroom and beyond. Installing some shades or shutters is a great way for you to give yourself privacy during the night.
Give us a call once you’re ready to find the right shades for your sun room.
